Affirmations are a way to deliberately shape your thoughts so that they support you. You can use affirmations to support you on your weight loss journey.
Positive affirmations about weight loss and healthy living will help you feel positive and create positive beliefs that make losing weight and achieving your weight loss goals easier.
They’re not magic. If you say affirmations, there’s no guarantee of weight loss, but from experience, they go a long way to changing how you feel and improving your beliefs about weight.
If you fill your mind with thoughts like… Weight loss is hard, I can’t lose weight, and I’ll never achieve my weight loss goal… You are putting up blocks to weight loss success.
Instead, if you fill your mind with positive affirmations such as… I am committed to achieving my ideal weight goal, I love and respect my body, and it’s natural for me to be slim and healthy, every day it gets easier to be slim and healthy… These thoughts empower you and support you.

How to use affirmations for weight loss
You can use positive affirmations at any time but a really good time to read through your affirmations is first thing in the morning and last thing at night. This is when your subconscious mind tends to be most open to new messages.
I encourage you to choose a few or even just 1 special affirmation that really resonates with you and use it as a mantra throughout the day. My favourite is… I’m slim, healthy and strong.
You can use affirmations to build new healthy habits such as… I enjoy moving my body. I enjoy my daily workout. I drink a litre of water every day. I eat slowly, I plan my meals for healthy eating…
If you catch yourself thinking something negative that does not support you in achieving your weight loss goal, simply replace it with a positive affirmation. Here are some examples:
- It’s so hard to eat healthy – Swap to… I love preparing healthy meals and snacks that I enjoy.
- I don’t like eating healthy – Swap to… I like how my body feels when I choose healthy options
- I hate exercising – Swap to… I love finding ways to move my body that I enjoy
- I’m never going to achieve my weight loss goals – Swap to… Every day I take small steps that move me closer to my ideal weight
Tips for using affirmations to help with weight loss
- Use them a lot. Affirmations take time to really work well. Imagine drip-feeding new beliefs to your subconscious mind. This is so powerful over time.
- Feel your affirmations. As you say the affirmation, imagine it is already true for you and how that would feel. Try to hold that feeling as you repeat your affirmations.
- One negative thought leads to more and more negative thoughts. They spiral. So, you want to create a positive spiral instead. Shift to a positive affirmation and another and another until it becomes a positive spiral of thoughts that support you.
- Write your favourite affirmations on sticky notes, on your mirror, on the front of your planner… anywhere you’ll see them often
- Write your favourite affirmations out daily
- Enjoy your affirmations. If they feel like a chore then they won’t support you.
- Combine your affirmations with EFT tapping (Emotional Freedom Techniques)
What if affirmations feel like lying?
Some people don’t get on very well with affirmations. Here are 3 things you can try if you feel like affirmations don’t work for you or they feel like a lie.
- Use step-up affirmations. So instead of going from I’m fat and hate how my body looks. You could say… I’m willing to believe I could change. I’m willing to make small changes over time to lose weight. I am choosing to respect my body. These small shifts are still really positive and powerful.
- Try afformations for weight loss instead. These are power questions that kind of trick your subconscious mind.
- Combine your affirmations with EFT – this helps to release resistance and allow new beliefs
