An achievements journal is an incredible tool to keep you motivated and focused on achieving more of the things you want in life.
In this post, we’ll cover:
- What is an achievements journal?
- How to keep an achievements journal
- Why you should be keeping a regular achievements journal (the benefits)
Oh and I’ve also created a special printable achievements tracker if that’s something you’d like.
What is an achievements journal?
An achievements journal is a place where you record your achievements. This can be done daily, weekly, as and when you want…
Most people are familiar with the concept of keeping a daily diary and writing about your day. It’s the same idea but you only focus on what you’ve achieved (big, small, and everything in between)
How to keep an achievements journal
Some people like to use a dated diary, I personally like to use a really nice undated notebook alongside a daily achievements tracker.
You can use whatever you want but I encourage you to make it feel special, something you like to use and look at.
When you’re new to keeping an achievements journal, I recommend making it a daily practice so that it becomes a positive habit.
Steps to creating a journaling practice to celebrate your achievements
Step 1 – At the start of your notebook make a list of key achievements throughout your life so far. Start at the beginning of your life up until now.
Here are a few suggestions. I learned to walk, run, climb… I completed school (talk about your qualifications or other successes), I passed my driving test, I gave birth, I raised a wonderful child, I became a… (talk about your career)…
Step 2 – Daily journaling (recommended) – Each day, write down your achievements for that specific day. The achievements don’t have to be big.
Some days you may write something along the lines of… I got up, I got dressed. I cooked a meal. Or you may have really big things to add that are important to you such as… Today I bought a new house, today I completed a course, today I ran 10 miles…
With your daily journalling, I encourage you to make it a rule to add a minimum of 3 things that you’ve achieved that day – Shifting your focus to achieving things that are important to you).
I like to add a mix of smaller things and big things. I write the bigger achievements in bigger and bolder writing so that I can easily see those achievements as I look back through my journal.
I also write my most important achievement of the day on my achievement tracker sheet. I personally find this extremely powerful and motivating.
If I can add something to the tracker that I feel is important every day, I have no problem believing that I am doing great and can achieve what I want in life.
For most of us, life has ups and downs and if you’re a business owner or working towards a particular goal, you will almost certainly have days where things aren’t going the way you would like.
This is when you’ll really benefit from reviewing your journal and reminding yourself of everything you’ve achieved so far.
Why you should be keeping a regular achievements journal
I totally dislike the word should. I suppose instead, what I want to tell you about are the amazing benefits of keeping a regular achievements journal.
This practice of recording your achievements will help you to stay focused, especially when you’re recording achievements connected with a specific area of your life or specific goal.
From a law of attraction point of view, when you focus your attention on your achievements, you become a match for attracting more achievements – Like attract likes. Your focus is on your achievements.
Another powerful reason to keep a note of your achievements is so that you can look back on all your successes on the days when you need some extra motivation.
Track your achievements to stay focused, motivated and align yourself with success
A weekly journal – record your key successes
Instead of the daily practice of writing your achievements down, you may prefer to keep a weekly journal. Have a special time at the end of the week to write down the key things that you’ve achieved during the week.
It’s also a good idea to add a note about why this is so important to you. For example, this week I did a workout on 5 different days. This is really helping me to feel healthier, to get fitter and it’s also helping me to feel more positive.
Here’s another example. This week I’ve made 10 sales on my ETSY SHOP. This is helping me to achieve my goal of 500 sales by the end of the year.
And another example. This week I put an extra £100 into my dedicated holiday savings account. I will soon have enough money to book my next holiday.
If you are working toward particular goals, it’s a good idea to write your goals down so you can see them whilst working on your journal.
I have a separate sheet of paper. It’s a bit like a bookmark. I slot it into my achievements journal on the page I’m currently writing on.
Then each time I work on my journal I also read through my goals and I can ask myself “What did I achieve this week connected to this goal?”
I use the achievement tracker sheet to track achievements for a specific goal.
This practice helps you to stay focused on achieving the things that really matter to you.

Journal for specific achievements
You can keep a journal just focusing on one specific area of your life that you’re focused on right now. For example, business achievements, training for a marathon, a financial goal… You can do this for anything that’s important to you.
Again, this will help you to stay focused and motivated. It also helps you to be a match for making more and more achievements.

Don’t skip the small stuff when it comes to achievements
We all achieve so much every single day but most of it doesn’t feel like an achievement to actually acknowledge. Starting right now, I really want you to start focusing on the small achievements you make every day as well as those bigger achievements. They all matter and they are all worth celebrating.
Take a few minutes right now to run through your day and all the things you achieved from the minute you woke up to right now. You can write them down or simply run through them in your head.
Some questions to help with achievements journalling
Questions are incredibly powerful and they can really help get things going with journalling. Here are some suggested questions you could ask yourself.
- What is my biggest achievement to date?
- What is the best thing I’ve achieved so far this year?
- What is my most important achievement today?
- What do I intend to achieve tomorrow, this week, this month, and by the end of this year?
So there we go. I hope you’ll give this a go. As a mindset coach, I’ve seen how powerful this practice of recording your achievements can be. It’s also helped me to achieve things I want in my own life.
You can journal in any notebook or diary you like and you can also download and print out the daily achievements tracker sheet from my ETSY SHOP.
