When you simplify your life, you create time and energy to focus on the things that really matter to you.

In order to add more simplicity to your life, you need to get clear about what is important to you and then work on clearing out the rest.

Simplicity tips to focus on what really matters…

  • Clear your mind clutter
  • Get clear about what’s important to you
  • Look for ways to simplify your everyday life
  • Stop spending time on things that don’t matter to you
  • Do what works for you
  • Gratitude and reflection time
  • Use simplicity goal setting

In a busy and often overwhelming world, let’s do simplicity.

Today I want to share some tips to help you simplify your life and I’ve also created a download that will help you to consistently simplify your life and focus on the things that matter.

I’ve created a special SIMPLICITY Workbook I’ll give you more details at the end of the post if that’s something you’re interested in. Also, throughout the post, I’ve linked to different YouTube videos to give you more information. I hope you find these helpful. For now, here are some great tips to help you simplify your life.

Breathe in calm and clarity

Before you start trying to simplify your life, you need to let go of mind-clutter so that you can work out what really matters to you.

This simple breathing exercise works wonders. You can use this exercise at any time when you feel you need to get rid of mind-clutter, calm down and gain clarity.

  • Take a nice slow, deep breath in and slowly release
  • Breathe in positive energy
  • Breathe out negative energy
  • Breathe in calm and clarity
  • Breathe out chaos and confusion

Affirmation – With every breath I take, I am calmer and have more clarity.

If you want to, you can follow along with me in this video – CALM AND CLARITY BREATHING EXERCISE VIDEO

EFT AND AFFIRMATIONS – Clear your mind of clutter

Again, another exercise to clear your mind of clutter so that you can really focus on the things that matter the most to you.

You can follow along with my video – EFT and Affirmation clarity session

  • Top of the head – My mind is clear and focused on what really matters
  • Forehead – My thoughts are simplified
  • Eyebrow – My mind is clear and focused on what really matters
  • Side of the eye – My thoughts are simplified
  • Under the eye – My mind is clear and focused on what really matters

Note that the EFT script here is different from the script in the video.

Questions to simplify your life

Questions can be incredibly powerful in all areas of life. The main question I want you to ask yourself is this…

HOW CAN I SIMPLIFY MY LIFE?

Ask this question repeatedly. I don’t mean sit and repeat it now, I mean get into the habit of asking this question on a regular basis, maybe daily to start.

Then you can break that question down to focus on specific areas of your life such as your morning routine – How can I simplify my morning routine?

Maybe you’re in business. You can ask…How can I simplify my business? Or it may be something more specific such as… How do I simplify how people get in touch with me? How do I simplify booking clients in for an appointment?

I talk more about how you might ask questions to simplify your life in this SIMPLICITY QUESTIONS VIDEO

Don’t spend time on things that don’t matter to you

I feel like this is such a simple piece of advice but so important – Don’t spend time on things that don’t matter to you.

But so many people do, day in, day out, and then wonder why they feel so dissatisfied with their life.

In general, I say Don’t do things you don’t love, but in all honesty, most of us do need to do things we don’t love but we do love the results or it does matter to us.

Here’s an example, I hate doing my accounts but I do love knowing I have a successful business and over the years I’ve found ways to simplify this process.

I don’t love it but it does matter and I do love seeing how my business is becoming more and more successful.

Another example is that I don’t like doing housework but I do love a nice clean and tidy home. This matters to me.

Check out my SIMPLICITY VIDEO where I talk about tracking your time so that you cut out things that don’t matter to you.

Do what works for you

Oh my goodness, this tip applies to absolutely all areas of your life. So many people get hung up on what other people do and try to fit in with that formula.

But what you must understand is what works for one person might be completely wrong for you.

Here’s a really simple example. I’m a big fan of meal planning but if I try to be strict and stick to set meals on certain days everything falls apart.

Instead, what works for me is to plan 7 main meals for the week. I make sure I have all the ingredients I need and then decide on the day which of the planned meals I want. This is what works for me and my family.

In business, you’ll always have people say things like “Buy my course and follow it exactly to be successful.”

Again, I’m sure that most of these courses have worked for someone, maybe many people but they may not work for you.

When I was a new coach, I had a coaching session with a different coach who was considered to be very successful.

I’d recently divorced and was bringing up my son alone. The coach told me that I needed to put my business first and basically work all hours and take every opportunity offered to me.

This was and still is dreadful advice for me personally. That advice would NEVER have given me the life I wanted.

Reflection and gratitude time

I encourage you to make regular (ideally daily) time for reflection and gratitude.

You can write your notes down or just set aside time to really think about what’s happened.

Note what went well during the day and also what didn’t go well and how you would have liked things to have gone differently.

This practice will really help you to keep your focus on what you want and how you want your life to be.

I share a great tip to SWAP when things haven’t gone well – Watch Video

Some examples

Here’s an example of gratitude for the things that went well…

  • I’m so grateful for the sales I made today
  • I’m so grateful that I get to work from home
  • I’m so grateful for all of my email subscribers, especially the ones who open, read and click links

And for something that didn’t go so well… (a real example from my own business)

  • Today Pinterest suspended one of my accounts with them for no reason I can see. This has meant that I’ve seen a big drop in page views to one of my blogs which will impact my income.
  • NEXT LOOK AT WHAT YOU CAN TAKE FROM THIS AND WHAT YOU WANT TO HAPPEN
  • The lesson I’ve learned from this is that I need to focus my attention much more on my email list and SEO so that I drive more organic traffic to my site
  • What I want to happen is that Pinterest unblocks my site and everything is up and working again. I want this to happen in the fastest time possible.
