Quick EFT Guide – Emotional Freedom Techniques
Emotional Freedom Techniques – EFT is a simple tapping technique where you tap on special meridian points. This is an energy technique to improve the way you feel and you can do it yourself.
The EFT points that I prefer to use are:
- Set up (if using) where you tap the side of the hand, just below the little finger
- Top of the head
- Forehead
- Eyebrow (thick part next to the nose)
- Side of the eye
- Under the eye
- Under the nose
- Under the mouth (between the bottom of your lip and the base of the chin)
- Collarbone (the points where the bones meet at the base of the neck)
- Side of the hand
Tap gently with two finders. Tap either side and with either hand.
Here’s a short video demonstrating the EFT tapping points.
At each point, you say something connected to the reason you are tapping.
An example set-up phrase: I’m tapping today to release this feeling of sadness. Then at each tapping point, you can just say “This sadness”
You can also TAP IN positive feelings such as “Feeling happy” or “Feeling confident”

More in-depth EFT tapping guide
Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is my favourite technique for releasing limiting beliefs, emotional blocks and so much more.
You tap on special Meridian Points which improves the energy flow in your body. This is always a good thing for you.
The more you improve the energy flow, the better you feel and the more you clear blocks.
As a law of attraction practitioner, I talk about raising your vibrations. When you raise your vibrations to a high level, you become a match for attracting the things you want.
EFT is a powerful and easy way to raise your vibrations (feel fantastic so that you are a match for the things you want).
I first learned about EFT when I was training to be a Law of Attraction Practitioner back in 2009 and loved it straight away and understood how powerful it was, but then later on I went on to gain a qualification as an EFT Master Practitioner and I then fully understood just how powerful it is.
I hope to share some of that knowledge here in this post.
I’ll share the EFT tapping points with you and share my top tips on tapping effectively. It’s super easy, I promise. You’ll be able to use it on your own, whenever you need it.
Also, I’ll give you some ideas for how you might like to use EFT to improve your life and the way you feel.
If you have any questions, just leave me a comment below and I’ll do my best to answer.
EFT Videos to help you use tapping in your own life
I encourage you to watch some of my EFT Tapping videos. This will help you to get used to the tapping points and how we tap. I have EFT videos on YouTube and daily EFT Videos on TikTok where you can simply follow along with me.
EFT – The Set-up
Think of Meridian points or EFT tapping points as energy points. When they are gently tapped or even gently massaged, they get to work on the energy flow in the body, clearing blocks and generally getting all the energy flowing as it should.
In EFT the points we tap on are around the head/face, collarbone and hand.
There are slightly different EFT tapping points but in this post, I will share The Heart and Soul Tapping Points and the Classic EFT tapping Points.
Heart and Soul EFT
Your starting position is with both hands on top of each other across the middle of your chest (palms to chest).
In this position I want you to focus on your breathing. Take 3 slow and deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth. Then relax your breathing to a calm and relaxed rate.
Keeping your hands in this position you will say your set up phrase – Simply say why you are tapping.
I’m tapping today to…
Here are a few examples…
- I’m tapping today to release this fear
- I’m tapping today to focus my attention
- I’m tapping today to release stress
- I’m tapping today to relax…
CLASSIC EFT
Tap the side of the hand (also called the Karate chop point. I tend to use all 4 fingers to tap this area starting from the base of the little finger down to the wrist.
I’ll make more suggestions as we go through this post. Gary Craig (founder of EFT) said Try it on anything and I totally agree.
If you’re not sure if EFT will work for something, give it a go and see what happens and you can also message me and ask my advice, just leave a comment below.
EFT Tapping Points – Heart and soul
Most people use two fingers, the index finger and the middle finger to gently tap the points.
If this causes any discomfort or pain then gently rub the point instead. Tap gently with a pace a little faster than one per second but please don’t worry about timing, I only said that to give you an idea of the frequency.
- Top of the head
- 3rd eye – middle of the forehead
- Eyebrow (the thick point)
Side of the eye- Under the eye
- Under the nose
- Under the mouth
- Collarbone (Gentle use your fist and tap the bone at the base of your neck)
Side of the thumbSide of the index fingerSide of the middle fingerSide of the ring fingerSide of the little finger
At each point, you would say a short reminder phrase. For example, if you were tapping to release worry, you would say “this worry” as you tap each point.
Place both hands back in the heart position – Both hands over the middle of the chest. Just remain there for a few extra seconds (longer if possible)
Classic EFT – The Tapping points
Start with the set-up at the side of the hand and then move to the following EFT tapping points...
- Top of the head
- Eyebrow (the thick part)
- Side of the eye
- Under the eye
- Under the nose
- Under the mouth
- Collarbone
- Under the arm
- Side of the hand
You will see variations. In fact, you may even notice that I mix these points with other points. It’s all good.
Lots of people stress about the tapping points. If you miss one out or find I add in something I don’t normally do, just go with it.
Positive EFT – Tapping in the good stuff
Positive EFT is where we tap on something positive, for example – I am successful, I feel calm and relaxed, I am confident…
These sessions tend to be quicker and really help you t feel fantastic – From a law of attraction point of view, they are great to help you raise your vibrations.
I personally only use the following points for Positive EFT…
Top of the head – Forehead – Eyebrow – Side of the eye – Under the eye – Under the nose – Under the mouth – Collarbone.
I then finish off by tapping the side of the hand (karate chop point)
Positive EFT is a fantastic way to start your day. I love to combine affirmations with EFT for a real boost.
I recommend making EFT tapping a part of your daily routine. Try combining your EFT session with some of these affirmations.
- Morning Affirmations – Have a Wonderful Day
- Affirmation “I am ENOUGH!”
- Gratitude Affirmations
- Happiness affirmations – Time to get happy
Tap Out The Old And Tap In The New
Another way to use EFT is as if you’re telling a story. Simple talk about what it is that you don’t want and then talk about what you do want, all the time moving through the tapping points.
You could do one round of tapping saying – All of this worry, I now let it go, soften and flow, soften and flow.
Then do a round of – I focus on the things I can control. I am calm.
Releasing Phobias with EFT
Focus on your phobia. I know this is really unpleasant. Feel the feeling you get and give this feeling a number from 1-10.
1 is when you feel fine and the feeling has gone. 10 is when the feeling is almost paralyzing, terror…
Also, feel where you feel the fear in your body.
Start tapping. You can say something specific such as…
- This fear of… (spiders, flying, the dark…)
Or you can simply say this feeling.
Clearing Limiting Beliefs with EFT
EFT is a wonderful technique for releasing limiting beliefs that keep us stuck. We pick up all kinds of beliefs throughout our life. Some are helpful and some are not.
We can tap to release the limiting beliefs, we can also tap in the new beliefs we want to form.
I have found that the best way to release limiting beliefs is to say Releasing any beliefs that I hold that no longer support me.

EFT to help with pain and illness
I’ve heard so many stories of people feeling better from long-term illness by using EFT. And as Gary Craig said, “Use it on everything.” I would definitely agree with that. If you’re not sure if it will help, just give it a go and see what happens.
I do want to share a little note here though. If you have a broken leg, you will still have a broken leg if you tap but the tapping may help with the healing and it may help with any pain and discomfort.
Everyday EFT To Improve Your Life
Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is a wonderful technique to help you feel good in general in your day-to-day life.
Whenever you do this tapping, you release energy blocks and improve your energy flow. This will always help you to feel better.

Combining EFT with positive affirmations
Using EFT with affirmations is one of my personal favourite ways to use EFT. It really does create a powerful combo. As you tap, you will say an affirmation or various affirmations and this works to release resistance (blocks) to the affirmation and helps to raise your vibrations so that you are able to feel great about it and allow it.

Emotional Freedom Techniques – EFT – The Conclusion
I really hope you’ve found this post helpful. I have personally been using EFT now in my life for many years.
It helped me to feel better and improve my life when I was at rock bottom and I continue to use it today in all areas of my life. I used it when I hit a block in my business.
I use it to help me through any tough things that come up and I use it to help me feel good on a daily basis.

EFT FAQ
Does it matter which hand I use to tap?
No, you can use either hand to tap, you can switch between hands and use both hands at points such as the eyebrow.
What does EFT stand for?
EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Techniques
It hurts when I tap, can I do something else?
Yes, you can try gently rubbing the EFT point
If I’m out in public, it’s embarrassing to do EFT, is there a different way?
Yes, you can do EFT hand tapping which is much more discrete – EFT HAND TAPPING
Do I need to do EFT for a set amount of time?
No, although when you’re working on things like releasing trauma, Painful memories, hurt, limiting beliefs that are really blocking you, phobias, you will benefit from spending a good amount of time on your EFT SESSION. I would recommend setting aside one hour.
You wouldn’t need to be tapping for all of this time. In severe cases where you are dealing with trauma and extreme phobias, I would recommend working privately with a qualified EFT practitioner.
You will find this very helpful and they’ll be able to help you really clear the problem and you’ve got someone to support you also.
I am big on promoting quick EFT. When people are new to using EFT tapping unless they have a big issue they need to deal with, they are unlikely to jump in and do an hour of EFT and it’s not always needed.
My TikTok EFT Videos are all under 3 minutes and are usually just one round of tapping. I would rather people do one round of EFT daily than not do it at all.
Do I always need to do an EFT set-up?
No, you don’t. You generally only do an EFT set-up at the start of a tapping session. However, I do recommend a set-up at these times…
- At the start of a session state why you are tapping. For example, I’m tapping to clear any limiting beliefs I have about money, or I’m tapping to release this feeling of sadness
- When you do a full EFT session where you work on releasing then move to positive EFT where you tap in what you want, I recommend a set-up at the start of the releasing session and another set-up as you move to positive EFT.
Sometimes when I’m doing positive EFT such as tapping and saying affirmations, I don’t always bother with a set-up.
I worry that I’m not tapping at the right points
Don’t worry about it. The best thing to do is follow along with some of my EFT videos to get used to the points.
I don’t know what to say when doing EFT
Don’t worry about the words too much. As long as you know why you’re tapping then it will be beneficial. EFT is working with your energy and it will pick up what you’re trying to clear and improve.

Thank you for sharing these techniques. Probably 15-20 yrs. ago a counselor taught my nephew tapping for anxiety. It worked usually. I was trying to remember how it went recently because I am new to manifesting and I’m under much stress from losing my son. I will be f/u with you but wanted to thank you for not charging . How many times am I to tap? When tapping fingers do you use both hands or dominant one? Blessings to you. Sue P.
Wendy says
Hi Sue, I’m so pleased you reached out to me and so sorry for your loss.
Have you seen any of the videos? It might be a good idea to follow along with some of them so you know the tapping speed etc. Have a look at my YouTube channel. This link will take you straight to the EFT playlist https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLOOlfpU6Z3vHd28-zec8BKiSn9-4gpESJ
You can tap with either hand or use one of both. It really is just personal preference.
If I may, I’d like to offer a few tips to try.
Sit in a comfortable position and take a few nice deep breaths in and slowly releasing.
You might find it helpful to practice daily tapping where you simply focus on your breathing. As you go through the tapping points simply say the name of the point your tapping on – Top of the head, forehead… instead of trying to focus on anything. I recommend you do this daily, maybe do 5+ rounds. Any tapping is beneficial but if you have the time, I would love you to spend at least ten minutes doing this.
Alongside this, I recommend tap and talk. So, imagine you’re with me and you know that you can say absolutely anything to me. Think about how you feel what you think about and just tap and talk moving from one tapping point to the next now and then (roughly after each sentence or two).
Also, I know that sometimes it’s really hard to be able to say how you’re feeling, hard to put things into words. So another thing you can do, especially when the feelings are overwhelming and strong, simply say THIS FEELING at each of the tapping points.
There’s no fixed rule for how long to tap. If you can only fit in a few rounds do that but if you can spend 10-15 minutes per session, that would be great. I recommend some tapping every day and you can do as many sessions as you want throughout the day.
You may find that you get quite tearful sometimes during the sessions. This is okay. You can take a little pause and then continue. This can happen as emotions are being released.
I’m sending you lots of loving, healing energy to you. And please do keep in touch.
Wendy xx

Hi
I went through the post you had put here and really enjoyed it. I have always had this question that what relation is between the words or affirmations we use and the tapping action, If we don’t say anything but just do tapping, what will be the result of that tapping? I will appreciate it if you answer this question.
Thank you so much and regards
Mohammadreza
Wendy says
I often work through the EFT tapping points without saying anything. Sometimes I don’t want to tap on anything specific. I also do this is I feel a bit ‘OFF’ but can’t put words to the way I feel. Give it a go for yourself. That’s the best way to see how it feels for you. Let me know how you get on.
Mohammadreza Mohammadzadeh says
Hi Wendy. Thank you so much for your prompt reply and explanation. I will try it.
