I’m a huge fan of using EFT to help clear blocks, release resistance, help with phobias, clear limiting beliefs and so much more but one question that I’m asked about regularly is what if I want to do EFT but I’m not somewhere where it’s appropriate to tap the usual points (around the face).
Whilst I would always recommend the use of all the normal tapping points, there are definitely times when we don’t want to start tapping around the face, etc, in public. There may be other reasons too where we don’t want to tap around the face and we can simply focus on the hand points.
If you’re in a public place and want to be discrete, you can simply tap the side of the hand (just below the little finger) and say your statement in your mind.
For example, if you’re feeling nervous, tap the side of your hand and you can say in your mind the affirmation “I’m calm and relaxed.” Repeat the affirmation as you keep tapping.
I personally find this incredibly effective.
I encourage you to read my EFT Guide if you haven’t heard about it before. Then come back to this post. This will give you a really good understanding of EFT – Emotional Freedom Techniques.

EFT Hand Tapping Points
If you really want to keep things super simple, simply tap the side of your hand (the area just below the little finger) this is what we call the karate chop point.
For a full EFT Hand-tapping round, follow this tapping sequence…
- Side of the hand
- Side of the thumb
- Side of the index finger
- Side of the middle finger
- Side of the ring finger
- Side of the little finger
- Inside wrist
Repeat as required. I usually recommend at least 5 rounds of hand tapping but anything is helpful.
Below are a few EFT scripts to give you some suggestions
Stress release
At alternate points we’re going to say “This stress” and then “Release” Please note that you don’t need to say this out loud if you’re around other people.
- Side of the hand – This stress
- Side of the thumb – Release
- Side of the index finger – This stress
- Side of the middle finger – Release
- Side of the ring finger – This stress
- Side of the little finger – Release
- Inside wrist – This stress
You can replace the word stress with any other feeling you want to release such as… this anger, this pain, this jealousy, this frustration, this sadness…
Or you can simply say this feeling. Often we can’t actually put a name to the feeling an emotion creates.
Calm and Relax
This is an EFT session I often do using hand tapping, for example, if I’m sat in my car about to go into a social event where I don’t really know people, or to a meeting etc.
- Side of the hand – I’m calm and relaxed
- Side of the thumb – I’m calm and relaxed
- Side of the index finger – I’m calm and relaxed
- Side of the middle finger – I’m calm and relaxed
- Side of the ring finger – I’m calm and relaxed
- Side of the little finger – I’m calm and relaxed
- Inside wrist – I’m calm and relaxed
You can use any affirmation with tapping, it’s incredibly effective to release resistance to an affirmation.

Tap and talk it out
I’m a big fan of this style of EFT tapping because it really focuses on what the problem is for you personally. Simply tap and talk about whatever is bothering you.
Imagine you’re talking to a person who you know 100% will never repeat what you’ve said to them and only listen. They’ll have absolutely no judgement, they are just there for you to talk to. Keep talking about the issue until you run out of things to say or feel like the issue has been released. No rules, just say whatever you want.
More tapping ideas
I’ve written many EFT posts here on the blog, have a look at these posts to get an idea of how you can use EFT hand tapping. The idea is the same, you’re just using fewer tapping points. Also, see my EFT Videos.
Also, because I know people will ask if I don’t say anything, it really doesn’t matter which hand you tap on. I personally like to switch hands after a couple of rounds but you don’t need to. It’s all good stuff.
