I’ve got to tell you that so many people tell me that when they say affirmations, they feel like a lie.
Most people who say this to me have simply stopped using them and this is such a shame as they really can be incredibly powerful in helping you to create the life you want.
Here’s what to do if your affirmations feel like a lie…
- Make your affirmations more believable for you (a step up from where you are now)
- Fake it til you make it (just keep going)
- Use EFT – Emotional Freedom Techniques to release resistance
- Use afformations instead
- Use the 3 step attraction statements

Affirmations have played a huge part in helping me to create the life I want and as a law of attraction practitioner, I know how much our thoughts impact our life.
Affirmations are a great way to deliberately fill your mind with positive messages that support you in creating the life you want. So let’s look at 5 things to do if affirmations feel like a lie.

Make your affirmations more believable
I find this technique really useful. Some people can do those big leap affirmations such as… I’m rich (when they’re actually in debt) and get really good results but most of us would have a huge resistance to that.
So instead, look at where you are now, where you want to be and create what I call a step up affirmation. Here’s an example…
- Where I am now – In debt
- Where I want to be – A millionaire
- Some step up affirmations could be – Every day I get better and better at managing my money – I’m good at saving money now – I follow my budget and always have money for saving – More and more now, money comes to me easily and often…
When you use these step up affirmations, your subconscious mind will accept it to be true more easily and support you.
Fake it til you make it (just keep going)
Now, I’m not suggesting you just aimlessly go on with things that are not working for you but I do feel strongly that people give up far too quickly.
Affirmations are a long term investment and something I encourage you to make a daily part of your life.
It’s not something you can spend 10 minutes on here and there and then fill your mind with any old rubbish for the rest of the time.
Affirmations always work best when they are repeated often and consistently over time.
Use EFT with your affirmations
If you don’t know what EFT is – Read my EFT HOW TO TAP GUIDE. It’s so easy to learn and use.
When you combine EFT with your affirmations you help to release resistance to the affirmation and raise your vibrations so that you become more and more of a positive match for the affirmation being true for you.

Use Afformations instead
Afformations are questions such as…
- Why am I so rich now?
- Why am I so slim now?
- Why do I have so many friends now?
- Why do I have so many clients now?
- Why do I have my dream home now?
- Why do I love exercising now?
The idea is that the questions almost tricks the subconscious mind into believing you do already have those things and therefore it supports you as if they were true.
I’ve done quite a lot of muscle testing on this and many people more readily accept AFFORMATIONS.
Take a look at the affirmations you’ve been using and try creating an afformation, then I’d recommend using them both together.
Here are a few examples…
- I have a 6-figure business – Why do I have a 6-figure business?
- I am healthy – why am I so healthy now?
- I have my dream car – Why am I driving around in my dream car now?
Try the 3 step attraction statements
I love the three-step attraction statements so much – This is very much a law of attraction exercise and well worth trying out.
- I’m in the process of attracting…
- The Universe is lining everything up for me to have…
- I LOVE IT WHEN…
Here’s an example…
- I’m in the process of attracting a brand new, blue, hybrid car
- The Universe is lining everything up for me to have a brand new, blue, hybrid car
- I LOVE IT WHEN I HAVE MY BEAUTIFUL, BRAND NEW, BLUE, HYBRID CAR
When you say the last statement I LOVE IT WHEN… you really want to be excited as if someone has knocked on your door and handed you the keys to this car (or whatever it is you want).
You can also say these statements with EFT.
