3 New Year Resolutions Worth Keeping

I’m not a huge fan of making New Year resolutions.  I tend to focus on Goals.  I feel that so many people set a New Year’s resolution and by mid-January, they’ve completely forgotten about it.

So what does the word resolution actually mean?

According to Oxford Dictionaries, it means A firm decision to do or not do something.

Now, as a life coach, I know that decision-making is super important. I think that over the years, the words New Year’s Resolution has lost their impact, so how about instead, saying “This year I have made a decision to…”

Here are 3 New Year resolutions that I think are well worth sticking to this year.

  1. Love yourself more
  2. Feed your mind with things that support you
  3. Work in your energy flow (to feel great)

1. Love yourself more – Put yourself first

I’ve made a decision to focus more on myself. To love myself more. To put myself first.

Now, as a mindset coach, I am always encouraging self-care and self-love but I think most of us will agree that LIFE can take over and we can forget to set aside time for ourselves. This year, I’m making myself a priority and I’d love you to do the same.

One of the questions I regularly ask myself is “What do I need to do for myself to feel my best?“

The answer might be as simple as making sure I get 7-8 hours sleep every night, drink more water or take a day off to go and do something I really enjoy.

It might be to go and get a complete health check or book an eye test. It might be to curl up on the sofa and read your book or take a nap.

So many people don’t prioritize themselves.  In an order of importance, they put themselves at the bottom of the pile and often end up feeling exhausted, unloved and uncared for.

Many years ago, before I trained as a life coach, I was told that the reason I was so emotional and burnt out was that I had put myself at the bottom of the pile and I needed to be at the very top. She explained to me that only then would I be able to give my best to others.

Also, when we don’t value ourselves and give time to ourselves, it actually becomes hard for others to show us care and love – Even if they’re trying to, we tend to block it when we don’t love, care for and value ourselves.

Put yourself at the top of the pile, take care of yourself first, and then, and only then can you really help others.

I can tell you that this wasn’t a natural or easy thing for me to do at that time but I knew what I was doing wasn’t working, so I made a decision to put myself first.

And this is still something I do.  I’ve got much better at it.  And I know when I forget and start prioritizing everyone else and everything else, things start going wrong for me and everyone around me.

I encourage you to make yourself a priority for the year ahead and always.

2. Feed your mind with things that support you

Really focus on feeding your mind with positives – Things that help you to think and feel more and more positive.

  • This can be affirmations – Positive statements that support you
  • Afformations – Power questions that support you
  • It can be listening to a positive podcast
  • Reading a positive book
  • Watching something that feels positive for you
  • Seeking out positive people
  • Listening to Hypnosis Downloads
  • Use EFT tapping to build positive beliefs

There are so many ways to fill your mind with positives. Seek out ways that you enjoy.

Here’s a really useful tip for times when you have negatives coming into your mind. For example. If you’re within hearing distance of people who are speaking negatively or you listen to the news.

You can say “That’s not my truth and shift your focus to a positive”

Here’s an example – I like to listen to the News. I like to know what’s going on in the world and I am interested in politics. However, there can be super negative messages when watching the news. Sometimes, I will see something and say to myself. That is sad for those people. This is not my reality. I send love and healing to those people. I am safe. I have a wonderful life…

Also, when I watch politics, I hold this message in my mind and put it out into the universe. There are many people in politics who genuinely want the best for me and others. There are really good people who are trying to make the world a better place.

Now, I want to be clear. This isn’t a Pollyanna type of thing where I think the world is perfect and everything and everyone is nice. This is a deliberate way to ensure that MY thoughts and MY energy that I put out into the world, into the universe are positive and SUPPORTIVE.

3. Work on your energy to feel great

When you work on feeling great, amazing things happen. Firstly, obviously, YOU FEEL GREAT. Secondly, when you do feel great your vibrations and energy are high and this is a great place for you to be to achieve your goals, to manifest things you want into your life, to have a great day, to have a great life…

Emotional Freedom Techniques – EFT is a very simple tapping technique that you can quickly learn (in minutes) and use yourself. Here’s my EFT Tapping Guide.

You can use EFT for all kinds of things. In this case, we want to use it to feel great. So I’ve created a special blog post with 7 daily EFT script ideas to feel great. They only take a few minutes out of your day. Have fun with them.
