These time management tips are not your typical time management tips. They focus more on mindset. We all have the same 24 hours each day but we all spend it differently.
- Get clear about what’s important
- Plan
- Prioritize
- Tools to help create a positive mindset are Affirmations, Visualizing and EFT tapping
I have to be honest, I’m a bit time obsessive. I hate being restricted to a time, when I am, I need to go over my plans, and over and over them and I literally turn into a ball of stress if I think I’m going to be late.
Based on my slightly neurotic time issues, time-management is a big deal for me and I have some key tips to share with you to make the most of your 24 hours a day.
As your online life and business coach these are what I consider to be the most important time management tips I can share with you.
Get clear about what’s important
This is such an important step but so many people never, ever take the time to get clear about what’s important to them.
In fact, most people are really great at telling other people what they don’t want but I encourage you to be different. Take some time out to really get clear about what is important to you.
I created a special download IMPROVE AND BALANCE ALL AREAS OF YOUR LIFE – This download will really help you to get clear about what you really want in your life.
Key questions to ask yourself…
- Who do I want to be?
- How do I want my life to be?
- What do I want my life to be like 5 years from now?
When you’re clear about what you want and who you want to be, you can say no to the rest of the unimportant things creating time and energy for the things that matter.
I also have a download that is designed to help you get clear about what you really want and how to simplify all 8 key areas of your life.
When you simplify your life then you create time and energy for the things that are most important to you. To find out more, go to Simplicity Goal Setting
Plan your time
Okay, so I know I said I’m a little over the top on this one but seriously planning your time is good advice.
Most people who complain that they are too busy are not lying but the problem is rarely that they have too much to do, it’s more that they haven’t spent any real time getting clear about what they want out of life.
Once you know what you want and how you want to live your life, you must plan your life the way you want.
At the start of this post, I said that we all have the same 24 hours each day. Don’t just randomly go through life taking whatever life, your friends, family, and the rest of the people around you throw at you. Actively plan to do the things you want in your life.
Prioritize your time, your way
The last of my time management tips is to prioritize the things you want. Say NO to the things that are not important to you or essential then make the things you want an absolute priority.
Do not let everyone else’s priorities become yours.
Here’s an example, it’s super important to Jenny that her family sit down and have meals together regularly but with three teenage children, more often than not, mealtimes are rushed and chaotic, grabbed before various after-school activities.
Jenny is clear about what she wants, so she sits her family down and tells her children that 2 nights every week, they will have a family meal all together with no activities booked for that day. Each child is able to choose 1 after-school activity.
Another example is Samantha wants to lose weight and improve her health but she never seems to be able to find the time to invest in this goal.
When she really looks at where she spends her time, she realized that on most days she spends at least 30 minutes on various social media sites plus she watches around 3 hours of television most evenings.
She plans a 30-minute walk or workout every day and every Sunday, she spends 15 minutes planning her healthy meals for the week.
And spends a little extra time in the kitchen preparing healthy meals from scratch. She still has time to browse social media and watch tv, so it’s a win all around.
Time-Management Mindset Tools
Affirmations – Positive, present-tense statement that supports you. For example…
- I always arrive at the perfect time
- Time is on my side
- I’m really good at managing my time well
- I make the most of my time
VISUALIZE – Visualizing is powerful and it’s really useful for helping with time management.
Let’s say that tomorrow you have to attend an important meeting that’s an hour away from your home depending on traffic.
Visualize the traffic running smoothly and see yourself arriving at the perfect time feeling calm and confident.
