The law of attraction responds to your thoughts. But, what if your thoughts aren’t particularly positive? Here’s my advice. Aim for better-feeling thoughts.
Mike Dooley from The Secret famously said that thoughts become things.
I’ve heard it said in this slightly different way too – What you think about, you bring about.
Now, I’m going to say right now, this doesn’t mean if you have some random thoughts about something really negative, you’re not going to instantly manifest this.
If you have a random thought that Zombies are going to take over the World, that’s not suddenly going to happen because you thought it.
However, when you keep filling your mind with negative, unhelpful thoughts, over time they do impact your life. You’ll find that you’re attracting things to match how you feel.
Negative thoughts create a low emotion and low emotions mean you’re a match for attracting things you don’t want.
So, what do you do?
You aim for better-feeling thoughts. These are thoughts that will feel a little better. Then aim for an even better feeling thought.
Today I want to share some ideas to help you improve your thoughts and share one way that people think will work but rarely does.
Big Leap Affirmations Rarely Work Well
Okay, let’s get this one out of the way first. Let’s say that you have no money in the bank, bills to pay and you’re going into debt. Using the affirmations “I’m Super Rich” or “I’m a Millionaire” are what I call BIG LEAP AFFIRMATIONS. They rarely work!
Now, I’m not going to say that this kind of affirmation never works. In fact, they can be incredibly powerful. However, most people will simply reject this kind of affirmation as a lie, therefore they are not effective.
Someone who has already got some good money habits and has been working on their money mindset for a while will be able to accept those big leap affirmations more readily.
If your thoughts aren’t great feeling then stay away from big leap affirmations.
How to create better feeling thoughts
Instead of going for big leap affirmations when your thoughts feel low (negative) aim for STEP UP AFFIRMATIONS.
Here are some examples.
- Current thought: I’m broke, I can’t pay my bills
- Big leap affirmation: I’m rich
- Step-up affirmation: I’m learning how to manage my money better
- Current thought: I’m so fat
- Big leap affirmations: I’m so slim
- Step-up affirmation: I’m focusing on small daily changes to help me reach my weight loss goal
Step-up affirmations are far more believable and therefore more helpful for you in this case.
Build a positive thought spiral
One negative, unhelpful thought generally leads to another and then another and then you get this whole spiral of negative thoughts that generally get more intense the longer they are left unchecked.
What you need to do is deliberately stop that negative thought spiral in its tracks. Affirmations are a great way to do this.
Initially, your mind will want to go back to the negative thoughts but keep feeding in those positive, helpful messages instead and gradually you’ll build a positive thought spiral.
Negative thought spiral: Another bill! I’ve got no money, everything’s so expensive, I’m never going to get ahead, I can’t do this!
Positive thought spiral: Another bill! Okay, money is tight but I do have the money to pay this bill on time, I will need to cut back this month and that’s okay, I’m working out how to cut my expenses and earn some extra money, I’m also working on managing my money better…
The situation is exactly the same in both examples – A BILL HAS ARRIVED. But the response is totally different and the feeling is totally different. The vibrations are positive and therefore you are more of a match for a positive outcome.
EFT helps build positive beliefs
A thought is often a really good way to monitor your beliefs. A negative thought is often tied to negative beliefs.
When you notice negative thoughts, it’s a great idea to write them down and then do some EFT tapping to release the thoughts and beliefs. EFT stand for Emotional Freedom Techniques, you can learn how to do this simple technique by having a quick read of my EFT – HOW TO TAP GUIDE.
I’ve also written a guide on USING EFT TO CLEAR LIMITING BELIEFS which is available to buy on my ETSY SHOP.
Here’s a very simple EFT script to use.
- Top of the head: I release this thought
- Forehead: I release this belief
- Eyebrow: I release this thought
- Side of the eye: I release this belief
- Under the eye: I release this thought
- Under the nose: I release this belief
- Under the mouth: I release this thought
- Collarbone: I release this belief
- Side of the hand: I release this thought
Repeat as many times as you want – I recommend at least 3 rounds.
Listen to hypnosis to build positive thoughts
I absolutely love hypnosis downloads and I’ve been using them personally for years for all kinds of things – You can check out my blog post 5 Life-Changing Hypnosis Downloads for ideas.
What I love about them is that no matter how tired I am at the end of the day, I can pop the audio on and positive messages will feed my mind. All I need to do is lay back and relax. In fact, I often fall asleep before the audio ends, which is fine by the way. The messages still go in.

Focus on gratitude to shape your thoughts
I’m a huge, huge fan of gratitude. I believe it’s our superpower. When we focus on what we’re grateful for we naturally feel better and it’s another way to deliberately control our thoughts.
Gratitude thoughts are positive thoughts. Here are some blog posts that will help you focus on gratitude…

The “spot it and swap it” thought game
Games are a great way to deliberately change your thoughts to positive. This is how the SPOT IT AND SWAP IT GAME works…
- Spot any negative, unhelpful thought
- Then swap it for a better feeling thought
EXAMPLE
- SPOT IT: I can’t do this, it’s too difficult for me
- SWAP IT: I can learn how to do this. I can ask for help. I can do this
I would never consider myself to be a techie type of person, but, sometimes as a Blogger, I do need to do some techie stuff. I will often jump straight to thoughts of “I don’t know what I’m doing. I can’t do this” I’ve had times when I’ve been reduced to tears.
But, then when I remember “spot it and swap it”. I quickly move to “Okay, I have fantastic people who can help me, I do know what to do, I just need to calm my thoughts and take one step at a time.”
By the way, if you have issues like this too, I can 100% recommend my fantastic Blog Hosting company – Read my review of them on my Amora Blogging Blog – LYRICAL HOST REVIEW. These are the people I almost always turn to for techie advice on my blog. They saved me from floods of tears many times.
Play the “Wouldn’t it be great” game
Another fantastic game for when you’re experiencing negative thoughts. Let’s say you’re having negative, unhelpful thoughts about your business or a family member, notice the thoughts and then say “Wouldn’t it be great if…”
Here’s an example:
- Current thought: I’m not making enough sales
- Wouldn’t it be great if every month my sales doubled
- Wouldn’t it be great if I made 100 sales by the end of the week
- Wouldn’t it be great if this month was my best-ever sales month
I really love playing this game. It’s a really good law of attraction game and completely changes your thoughts and feelings.
You’re also telling the universe, YES this is what I want to manifest. It’s powerful.
