I definitely believe that some people overcomplicate the law of attraction and it’s really not necessary. I also encourage you to ask if you have any questions.
This is a super long post, so, if you’re a note-taker, now’s a good time to grab your notebook and maybe a drink.
At the start of my own law of attraction journey, I really didn’t feel that great about myself and whenever people ask me what is the best thing I’ve attracted using the law of attraction my answer is always the same, it’s the way I feel about myself.
I really hope that my tips today help you to feel wonderful about yourself and your life.
A final note before I get into my tips – You do not need to be perfect, your life does not need to be perfect – The time to love yourself and love your life is right now. xxx
Start with yourself
I’m going to jump right in and tell you what I believe is the most important law of attraction lesson I can ever share with you. When you feel great, you are in a natural place to attract more of the things you want in your life.
Therefore, if you want to effectively use the law of attraction it’s so important to start with feeling better about yourself.
Get to know yourself
Do you really know yourself? Have you ever really put any thought into this question? I want you to get really clear about who you are right now at this time in your life. I encourage you to write some notes in a special notebook now and date your notes.
Who do you want to be?
Next, I want you to get really clear about the person you really want to be. When I first did this kind of exercise I wrote down…
- I wanted to go to bed each night happy with the way I had lived that day
- There were lots of other things too like
- I wanted to improve my health
- I wanted to study more
- I wanted to be a better mum (I wasn’t an awful mum but I often at that time didn’t parent the way I felt was best)
- I wanted to look at myself in the mirror and like the person looking back at me
- I wanted to be someone who helped inspire other people…
I want you to really take some time to work out who you really want to be and again, I encourage you to write these notes down.
From this moment on, I want you to really focus on being this person every day. If you find yourself BEING someone different from the person you want to be, be gentle with yourself and just refocus on who you do want to be.

Your clarity question
A really good clarity question to ask yourself is… “If I don’t want to be this person, who do I want to be?”
Here’s an example of when I have used this question.
I’m a shouter when I get frustrated or upset. Not proud of it and it’s not the way I want to behave, especially when it’s directed at my fantastic son. But the reality is, sometimes even now I do shout, thankfully it’s quite rare these days.
As soon as I spot that I’m doing this or get that feeling that I’m about to start shouting, I take a deep breath and say to myself “If I don’t want to be this person (the shouty version of me), who do I want to be?”
– I want to be the kind of person who is able to stay calm and positive, even when I’m really frustrated, upset, annoyed…
You can use this question anytime you feel like you’re behaving in a way that you don’t really like.
What are your values?
Part of getting to know yourself is getting to know your values. Some of the things I value the most are…
- Family – Loved ones, including friends
- Being a great mum and a positive role model to my son and others I may influence
- Freedom – To live my life on my terms, freedom to my own opinions, freedom to make my own choices, time freedom, financial freedom…
- Healthy Living – Living in a way that helps me to be well, healthy, and fit
- My impact on the planet – I try to live a lifestyle that has a low or positive impact on the planet
- Be a nice person – I’m definitely not nice all the time but fundamentally I want to be a nice person
- To help people through my blogs (I’m super proud of my blogs)
These are the things that are really important to me personally and this can be totally different for you. My advice is to try and be completely honest with yourself and don’t give importance to things that you feel you should value, this exercise is about clarity for you and you alone.

A story about clarity
I used to think that having a thriving coaching practice working with individual clients was something I really valued but after some time I realized this was not what I valued.
I valued helping others to create a life they love but that wasn’t through private coaching it was through writing.
I also worked out that I really, really love time freedom and I couldn’t have that when I had coaching clients booked in all day and every day.
Sometimes you’ll need time to work out what is most important to you. You’ll start to gain more and more clarity over time.
Please note that throughout your life, what you want may change and what works for you may change.
Learning to love yourself
I can tell you that I used to think awful things about myself. I had a real wake-up moment shortly after my wonderful Dad died when I stood in front of my bathroom mirror and cried. I was crying because all my Dad had ever wanted for me was for me to be happy and do the things I wanted in life.
I’d stopped doing that and the person I was looking at in the mirror, I almost didn’t recognize – I don’t mean physically, I mean that I turned into someone different from the person I wanted to be.
I was a long way from loving myself at that point but even at that point before any of my training, I knew that was not helpful for me. That was confirmed to be through my Life Skills training and especially my Law of Attraction Practitioners training.
When you can learn to love yourself, really love yourself, life just gets easier. Imagine that you had to spend 24 hours a day with someone you didn’t like and you knew they didn’t like you and you had to do this for the rest of your life.
That’s a pretty awful scenario, right? Yet so many of us don’t even like ourselves let alone love ourselves. Now, Imagine that scenario where you spend every single day with someone that you know totally loves you, unconditionally and thinks you’re brilliant.
That’s the relationship I want you to have with yourself. That’s where I am now and I still really love myself even on the days that I totally screw up and I do have those days, I don’t want any of you to think I am this perfect person who floats through life on a pink fluffy cloud – That’s not my life and that’s okay.
I created a Learn to love yourself challenge on one of my other blogs which I really hope you’ll work through as I do truly believe that this is so important.
Here’s a fantastic blog post to read – STOP WORRYING ABOUT WHAT PEOPLE THINK ABOUT YOU
Law of Attraction and What It Responds To
There are 2 key things that the law of attraction responds to – Your emotions and what you put your attention on. I’m going to give you more details about each below.
What do you focus on?
The important thing that I want to share with you here is that the law of attraction doesn’t know what’s best for you it just responds to HOW you are focusing on things and draws to you what you are a match for WANTED or NOT. This is super important.
A really easy example for me to use to explain this is with money. If you want to attract more money and you are focusing on wanting more money from a place of not having enough money, what you are actually a match for is NOT HAVING ENOUGH MONEY.
If you focus on money with raised vibrations so that any connection to money is with positive emotions, you become a match to attract more and more money. I’ll explain raising your vibrations a little further down.
Again, if you are constantly focusing on being broke (financially) that’s exactly what you are a match for. So the focus and the emotion both need to work together.
Focus on what you want and what you already have and love from a place of joy.
In terms of using the law of attraction to feel better about yourself, focus on the person you want to be from a place of love and really appreciate the things you like/love about yourself already.
Law of attraction and emotions
The law of attraction gives you that which you are a vibrational match for. The easiest way to monitor your vibrations (vibes) is by the way you feel – Your emotions. To super simplify this, if you feel great – your vibrations are high (positive) and if you feel bad about yourself (something) then your vibrations are low (negative).
The law of atraction gives you that which you are a vibrational match for – wanted or not.
Example – I hate myself (low vibrations) – I totally love myself (high vibrations)
Low vibrations – You block the things you want and you can be attracting things you don’t want.
High vibrations – You are more of a match to allow the things you want to come into your life.
And this all comes back to the way you feel about yourself.
The law of attraction 5

Now, I’ve been doing this law of attraction thing for a long time now, and whilst your emotions and what you put your attention on are the biggest players in this attraction picture, it’s helpful to also remember this…
The law of attraction responds to…
- Your thoughts
- Your feelings
- Your beliefs
- The things you say (to yourself or others)
- The things you do
Whilst I do believe that it’s ultimately your emotions (feeling) that create the power (remember, wanted or not), your thoughts, beliefs, the things you say and the things you do all tie in with your emotions, so for that reason are all super important.
I’m going to talk a little about each of these further down but first I want to tell you about my 5-part video series (all completely free on my YouTube channel).
The law of attraction responds to your thoughts, feelings, beliefs, the things you say and the things you do.
Law of attraction video series – How the law of attraction works
I’d really love you to watch my 5-part video series on how the law of attraction works where I go into each of these 5 things in detail giving you tips and exercises to help you keep raising your vibration (so that you feel great about yourself and become a match for attracting the life you want).
I created this video series a long time ago but the content is still super valuable – The law of attraction doesn’t change.
At the end of each video, I want you to really reflect on and make notes about how this relates to helping you to feel better about yourself.
Thoughts
Mike Dooley from the hit movie The Secret famously said “Thoughts become things”
Your thoughts create a feeling and if your thoughts are negative, you will feel negative (your vibrations will be low) and you will find it really hard to attract the things you want.
Your thoughts will play a huge part in the way you feel about yourself. I strongly encourage you to try using affirmations and encourage you to read How to use Affirmations
Filling your mind with positive messages will help you to help you feel better about yourself. Affirmations definitely played a massive part in my journey to loving myself.
Every time you catch a negative – unhelpful thought, spot it and swap it for something better feeling.
Beliefs
Throughout our life we collect all kinds of beliefs, some are really helpful and some really block us in life and then there’s that whole range in between.
I want you to start paying attention to your beliefs and any that aren’t helpful. Work on replacing or releasing.
You can start by questioning the belief – Why do you believe this? Where did the belief come from? Is it really true for you now?
You can also use a technique called EFT – Emotional Freedom Techniques to release and help replace limiting or negative beliefs (any belief that does not support you now).
Your set up can be “Even though I have this limiting belief that no longer serves me, I choose to let it go now and let go of any emotional attachment to this belief” Then on the tapping points simply say “This belief” – You can go into detail about the belief if you want to – For example, Even though I believe that I don’t deserve to be happy, I now recognize this is a limiting belief and I choose to let it go”
I also want you to start building new, positive beliefs that support you, EFT and Affirmations can help with this. Read my EFT and Affirmations combo post for ideas. You could tap in the affirmation – I love and respect myself.
The things you say
When I was coaching, people would often tell me that they wanted to attract something specific into their life and then I’d ask them to talk about it and the things they said were not a match for attracting it.
Example
I want to attract more friends – Then go onto say things like “I don’t have any friends, I can never keep friends, I don’t have anything in common with anyone I know…” THIS ISN’T A MATCH FOR THE THING YOU WANT.
Use that power question – If I don’t want this what do I want? And use your answers to create positive statements instead. A better way to talk would be… “I’m open to attracting wonderful new friends, long-term friends who stick around, friends who love and support me, friends I have loads in common with…” – This way of talking focuses on what you want in a really positive (high vibrating way) and feels so much better.
Pay attention to what you say to yourself and to others.
The things you do
Your actions also create emotions. Let’s say that you spend an hour taking really good care of yourself, or learning something new, going for a walk, doing something nice for yourself or someone else… These actions would likely support you and help you to feel better about yourself.
Imagine that you want to be a healthy person with healthy eating habits – If you prioritize learning which foods help you to feel well, healthy, energized… and then mostly eat those foods – your actions will support you in being healthy.
If however, you mostly eat foods that don’t make you feel healthy, well, energized then your actions don’t support you.
If you want to be someone who is confident – you can take action by learning how to improve your confidence
If you want to build a successful blog with a full-time income and more but you don’t spend time working on your blog on a regular basis then you’re not a match for what you want.
Check-in throughout the day and just ask yourself – Are my actions supporting me? Are my actions helping me to feel better about myself
Are my actions supporting me? Are my actions helping me to feel better about myself
