Today I want to share some affirmations to help you calm down. I will also give you some special tips to use when practicing these calming messages.

If you’re quite new to using affirmations, the key thing to remember is that they are positive statements. Using words such as I AM.. really helps to focus the energy of the affirmation on you.

I encourage you to read my HOW TO USE AFFIRMATIONS Guide which is full of really useful tips for adding these positive messages into your daily life.

Okay, let’s dive into this. I’ll start off with some examples of affirmations to calm down then I’ll share some extra tips.

Find me on TikTok: Here’s a great little EFT video to show you how to tap to feel calm and relaxed.

Affirmations to calm down. Also includes are tips to help make the most of these calming messages and an EFT tapping script to calm and relax.

Affirmations to calm down

  1. I am calm
  2. I am calming down now
  3. I am calming my thoughts now
  4. I am calming my breathing now
  5. I’m calm and relaxed now
  6. Right here, right now all is well in my world
  7. I focus on my breath now
  8. I breathe deeply
  9. I breathe in calmness and breathe out stress (use whatever word is relevant to you, such as stress, anxiety, panic, fear…)
  10. I relax my body and breathe in calm energy

I’m going to leave my examples there. I could scrape together a really long list but honestly, these are the affirmations that you are most likely to find helpful.

I find that affirmations work the best when you focus directly on the main thing you want. In this case, that’s to calm down.

Add in deliberate breathing

Of course, we are always breathing but when we are stressed, panicked, anxious, fearful… we tend to take shallow and quick breaths.

So, as you run your affirmations through your mind also focus your attention on your breathing.

You are aiming to slow down your breathing, take a few nice deep breaths in and slowly release. Then allow your breathing to return to a calmer rate.

Keep your focus on your breath as you keep repeating your affirmations. Imagine as you breathe in that your body is being filled with calm energy and as you breathe out, imagine releasing any unwanted feelings.

Less is more when it comes to calming affirmations

When you’re not calm, the last things you want to be doing is searching for a list or this blogs post and reading through a list of different affirmations.

Instead, have 1 or 2 go-to affirmations. When I feel really stressed, fearful… I start off with the breathing exercise and in my mind, I’m saying “I breathe in calm, I release… ” (whatever feeling I want to release).

Then my next go-to affirmation is “I’m calm and relaxed” – I repeat this affirmation over and over whilst still focusing on keeping my breathing nice and relaxed.

Combine your affirmations with EFT Tapping

EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Techniques and we tap on meridian points using our fingers. If you’re new to this, check out my easy EFT GUIDE. It really is super easy to learn and use yourself.

When I want to calm down I almost always stick to just one affirmation and for me, that’s “I’m calm and relaxed”

EFT Tapping – I’m calm and relaxed

Follow along with this super simple EFT tapping script. Repeat until you feel calm. Simply tap repeated on each point and say the affirmation.

  • Top of the head – I’m calm and relaxed
  • Forehead – I’m calm and relaxed
  • Eyebrow – I’m calm and relaxed
  • Side of the eye – I’m calm and relaxed
  • Under the eye – I’m calm and relaxed
  • Under the nose – I’m calm and relaxed
  • Under the mouth – I’m calm and relaxed
  • Collarbone – I’m calm and relaxed
  • Under the arm – I’m calm and relaxed
  • Side of the hand – I’m calm and relaxed

I recommend that you take the time to do a nice deep breath between tapping points. As you start to calm down more, you can move the deeper breaths to between tapping rounds.

I recommend where possible having a drink of water before and after tapping as this really helps the flow of positive energy.

I’ve actually written a whole blog post with 3 EFT Script ideas for calming down – you can read that full post here >> EFT TO CALM DOWN

Make your affirmation more specific

If you can, it’s a good idea to make your affirmations more specific. For example, if you’re about to go into an important meeting and you’re feeling really nervous, you may find this affirmation helpful… I’m calm and confident. Or even… I’m calm and confident when I attend meetings.

If you know the reason you’re not calm, making your affirmation more specific will really target your attention to this specific energy.

More affirmations you may find helpful

I really hope you find these affirmations to calm down helpful. I am quite an anxious person and both affirmations and EFT have really helped me to deal with these emotions as they come up in a really positive way.
